Easiest Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats
Ingredients
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
After cooking
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey)
Instructions
-
Place all ingredients the base of an Instant Pot.
-
Put the lid on, set valve to ‘sealed’, and pressure cook (high pressure) for 4 minutes.
-
Allow pressure to naturally release (roughly 20 minutes; if you forget about it for a few hours, that’s OK too!)
-
Stir in the maple syrup, then serve or portion out.
Storage
-
Steel cut oats keep in the fridge for up to 4 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
-
To freeze- you can freeze directly in meal prep containers (make sure everything is cool before placing in the freezer), or in muffin trays before portioning out in freezer bags.
How can I change up the flavor of these steel cut oats? Check out this post with 7 Steel Cut Oats Recipes, there are a ton of ideas!
- you can add different spices such as nutmeg, cardamom or ginger
- you can add in pumpkin puree or applesauce; I recommend stirring in anything ‘thick’ after cooking, as they could potentially give you a ‘burn’ notification on your Instant Pot.
- change up the fruit; add in some apples, pears, kiwis, bananas, really anything you can think of!
- add in some citrus zest: you can do this before cooking so the oats infuse with tons of citrus flavor
- stir in some nut butter: I would do 2-4 tablespoons for 1 cup of steel cut oats. I also love drizzling with peanut butter before serving
- add some cocoa powder: try adding 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of steel cut oats, and add before cooking. Sprinkle with chocolate chips for a double dose of chocolate flavor!
